To be Successful, you have to Get COMFORTABLE with Being UNCOMFORTABLEThey told me once I was successful, life would be more Comfortable. THEY WERE WRONG! Do you find yourself saying, “I can’t wait until I’m making more money, because I want to get to a comfortable place.” I want to dispel a huge myth! Are you ready, because this is BIG? If you want to be successful, you will never be COMFORTABLE! In fact, to be truly successful you have to GET COMFORTABLE WITH BEING UNCOMFORTABLE.
I was getting on a plane recently thinking about all the things I’m working on right now – The book, coaching, mentoring, public speaking, being a landlord, and I started to get mad. I was mad because it feels so uncomfortable. I started praying. I asked God why he put me in this place that is so UNCOMFORTABLE. I said, you gave me a vision of greatness, you made me feel like I was about to be successful. All I feel right now is UNCOMFORTABLE.
His Response to Me
The plane was full and there were very few seats. I walked to the back of the plane (Not flying first class yet) and got to the last two seats. It was the only space with enough room overhead for my luggage. I then looked at the guy I was about to sit next too. I smiled and said “What Up?”. I think he was shocked to see this suited up Executive say “what up?”. He had tattoos from head to toe. He was wearing straight LA gear. I knew from my life experience he was either and active or retired banger. Based on his tattoos I knew he was a General in a gang (Someone who has a temper and will kill you in a minute). I sat down next to him. UNCOMFORTABLE, just a little! I think he was UNCOMFORTABLE too! We started talking like we were old friends. His name was Santiago. He told me he had been in and out of prison for the last 35 years. He was a fighter on the streets, but he was also a mental fighter. He asked me about my journey. I told him that I went from broke as hell to living well. We landed in Houston and it was time for me to get off the plane. He was headed back to LA. He hadn’t been home in over a year. Santiago realized he had to take a risk and move away from home. In LA he was trapped in a vicious circle. He had to get really uncomfortable in order to change his life. I gave him a copy of my book and I told him to stay in touch. He reached in his pocket and pulled out his roll (That’s folded 100 dollar bills, and a lot of them) then paid me for the book and said, “Homey I got to support the real Generals that are willing to teach guys like me how to make it.”
God has a funny way of delivering responses to prayer. You see, I’m UNCOMFORTABLE because I’m growing into my SUCCESS. If you want to be truly successful, get out of your comfort zone. Steve Harvey said this to me in a tweet a few weeks ago. THANKS STEVE, I get it now. So if you’re trying to get to the next level, face your fear head on. Get COMFORTABLE with being UNCOMFORTABLE!
